The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 kicks off on June 1st and runs until June 29th. This year, the United States and the West Indies will co-host the event. It will be the ninth edition of the T20 Cricket World Cup, featuring a total of 20 teams vying for the title.

History of T20 World Cup 2024

The first T20 World Cup was held in 2007, with India emerging victorious under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The West Indies and England have each claimed the title twice, while India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have secured one win apiece. The West Indies dominated in 2012 and 2016, while England came out on top in 2010 and 2022.

This year’s tournament welcomes 20 teams:

The Format

  • All 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each.
  • The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage.
  • In the Super 8 stage, teams will be placed in two groups of four each.
  • The top two teams from each Super 8 group will progress to the semifinals.
  • Winners of the semifinals will clash in the final match.

The Rules

  • This year will see the implementation of the ‘Stop Clock’ rule, meaning the bowling team must begin their next over within 60 seconds of the previous one ending.
  • In the event of a tie, a Super Over will be used to determine the winner.
  • The DLS method will be applied in case of rain interruptions.
  • A reserve day is allocated for both the first semifinal and the final.

India’s Matches in T20 World Cup 2024

Matches featuring the Indian team will commence at 8:00 PM IST (Indian Standard Time). The India vs. Pakistan encounter will also begin at 8:00 PM IST. The first semifinal kicks off at 8:00 PM IST, while the final match is scheduled for 7:30 PM IST.
