The SSB (Services Selection Board) interview is a crucial step in the selection process for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Armed Forces as officers. Process of SSB Interview
Here’s an overview of the SSB interview process. It is conducted in two stages:
Stage 1
Screening Test: The first stage involves a verbal and non-verbal intelligence test and a picture perception and discussion test (PPDT). Candidates are required to narrate a story based on a given picture and later participate in a group discussion.
Stage 2
- Psychological Tests: Candidates who pass the screening test move on to the psychological tests, which include the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT), and Self-Description Test (SD). These tests assess the candidate’s personality traits, thought processes, and problem-solving abilities.
- Personal Interview (IO): Each candidate faces a personal interview with an SSB board member. During the interview, candidates are asked questions about their life, experiences, and opinions. The interview assesses the candidate’s communication skills, confidence, and suitability for an officer’s role.
- Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO): This stage includes a series of group activities designed to evaluate leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Tasks may include group discussions, group planning exercises, progressive group tasks, and outdoor activities.
- Conference: In the final conference, the SSB board members discuss and evaluate each candidate’s performance throughout the process. The decision to recommend or not recommend a candidate for selection is made collectively.
