Science and Technology is an important tool for the progress and modernization of a country. The economic progress of a nation is an indicator of the protection of its intellectual property. In the new economic policy, India has also entered the multilateral trading system. India also needs a strict system for the protection of intellectual property rights, so that it can survive in the competitive market. In the Ninth Five Year Plan, a step was taken in a new direction by establishing the Patent Information Center in the Madhya Pradesh Science and Technology Council in the year 1997 with financial and technical assistance from the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC).

For this, the government has organized various workshops, seminars and awareness programs. Along with this, the government has also set up websites and helplines to provide information related to IPR.
