Narendra Modi has taken oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time. On Sunday (09 June 2024), President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to NDA leader Narendra Modi, making him the 20th Prime Minister of independent India. Apart from Modi, 30 leaders took oath as Cabinet Ministers, 5 leaders as Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 36 leaders as Ministers of State in the NDA government.

BJP leader Narendra Modi was first elected Prime Minister of the country in 2014. Earlier, he has been the Chief Minister of Gujarat for three consecutive times. In 2019, Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India for the second time. Now in 2024, Narendra Modi has taken oath as Prime Minister for the third time. However, unlike 2019 when the BJP had an absolute majority to form the government, in 2024 the BJP does not have an absolute majority. The NDA alliance led by Narendra Modi formed the government by winning 293 out of 543 seats.

Modi Cabinet Ministers List 2024

A total of 30 cabinet ministers have been included in Narendra Modi’s third cabinet. While some old faces have been retained, some new faces have also been included. The BJP has also considered its allies in the cabinet, which includes the Telugu Desam Party, Hindustani Awam Morcha, Lok Janshakti Ram Vilas, Janata Dal Secular and Janata Dal-United.

  1. Rajnath Singh has taken oath as a cabinet minister. Rajnath Singh was the Defense Minister in the previous government. After the formation of the BJP government in 2014, he became the Home Minister and later also served as Defense Minister in Modi’s second term. Rajnath Singh has been elected MP from Lucknow.
  2. Amit Shah took oath as a cabinet minister. Amit Shah was the Home Minister in the previous government. Amit Shah has been elected MP from Gandhinagar, Gujarat for the second time.
  3. Nitin Gadkari took oath as a cabinet minister. He has been elected MP from Nagpur, Maharashtra.
  4. BJP President JP Nadda is currently a Rajya Sabha member and the national president of the party.
  5. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been elected MP from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh.
  6. Nirmala Sitharaman was the Finance Minister in the previous government. She has also been the Defense Minister. Nirmala Sitharaman is a Rajya Sabha member.
  7. S. Jaishankar held the post of Foreign Minister in Narendra Modi’s previous government. He is a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat and has become a cabinet minister for the second consecutive time.
  8. Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has also taken oath as a cabinet minister. This is his first time as a cabinet minister. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister in Haryana in March. Manohar Lal has been elected MP from Karnal, Haryana.
  9. Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of JDS has won the Mandya seat in Karnataka in the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Kumaraswamy is the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
  10. Piyush Goyal has been elected MP from North Mumbai. He has been a cabinet minister in the first two governments of Narendra Modi.
  11. Dharmendra Pradhan has been a cabinet minister in both the previous governments. He has been Petroleum Minister and Education Minister. Dharmendra Pradhan has been elected MP from Sambalpur, Odisha.
  12. Former Bihar Chief Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi has taken oath as a cabinet minister. This is his first time as a cabinet minister. He has been elected MP from Gaya.
  13. Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh of JD(U) has become a cabinet minister for the first time. He has been elected MP from Munger, Bihar. He has earlier been a cabinet minister in the Bihar government.
  14. Sarbananda Sonowal was also a cabinet minister in the previous government. He has been the Chief Minister of Assam. Sonowal has been elected MP from Dibrugarh.
  15. Dr. Virendra Kumar has been elected MP from Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh. He has also been a minister in the first two governments of Narendra Modi.
  16. Rammohan Naidu of TDP has been elected MP from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.
  17. Prahlad Joshi has been a minister in the previous government of Narendra Modi.
  18. Jual Oram has been elected MP from Sundargarh, Odisha. He has earlier been a minister in the first government of Narendra Modi.
  19. Giriraj Singh has been elected MP from Begusarai, Bihar. He has been a minister in the first two governments of Narendra Modi.
  20. Ashwini Vaishnav was the Railway Minister in the previous government. He is a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha.
  21. Jyotiraditya Scindia has been elected MP from Guna in Madhya Pradesh. This is his fourth time as a minister in the central government. Apart from becoming a minister for the second time in Narendra Modi’s government, he has also been a minister in both the UPA governments. In 2020, Scindia left the Congress and joined the BJP. However, he lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Guna.
  22. Bhupendra Yadav has been elected MP from Alwar in Rajasthan. He has been a cabinet minister in the previous government. He has been a Rajya Sabha member twice.
  23. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has been elected MP from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. He has been a cabinet minister in the previous government.
  24. Annapurna Devi is an MP from Koderma in Jharkhand. This is her second time as a minister in the central government.
  25. Kiren Rijiju has been elected MP from Arunachal Pradesh. He has been a minister of state twice and a cabinet minister once.
  26. Hardeep Singh Puri is a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh. He has been a minister in the first two governments of Narendra Modi.
  27. Mansukh Mandaviya was the Health Minister in the previous government. He has been elected MP from Porbandar in Gujarat for the first time. However, he has been a Rajya Sabha member twice.
  28. G. Kishan Reddy has been elected MP from Secunderabad in Telangana. He has also been a minister in Narendra Modi’s previous government.
  29. Lok Janshakti (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan has taken oath as a Cabinet Minister. This is his first time as a minister in the central government. He has been elected MP from Hajipur in Bihar. In the 18th Lok Sabha elections, five MPs of LJP (Ram Vilas) registered victory and achieved a 100% strike rate for the party.
  30. CR Patil has taken oath as a Cabinet Minister. He has been elected MP from Navsari in Gujarat. This is his first time as a minister in the central government.

Cabinet Ministers of State (Independent Charge) who took oath: 

  1. Rao Indrajit Singh has been elected MP for the sixth time from Gurgaon, Haryana. He has been a minister in both the previous governments of Narendra Modi. 
  2. Jitendra Singh has been elected MP from Udhampur. He has been a minister in the previous government of Narendra Modi. 
  3. Arjun Ram Meghwal is an MP from Bikaner, Rajasthan and has been a minister in the previous government of Narendra Modi. 
  4. Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) MP Pratap Rao Ganpat Rao Madhav has been elected from Buldhana. This is his first time as a minister in the central government. 
  5. National President of Rashtriya Lok Dal Jayant Chaudhary is a Rajya Sabha member. His party has two MPs in the Lok Sabha. Jayant Chaudhary joined the NDA alliance earlier this year.

Cabinet Ministers of State who took oath: 

  1. Jitin Prasad has been elected MP from Pilibhit. He has been a Union Minister in the UPA government and a minister in the UP government. 
  2. Shripad Yesso Naik has been elected MP from North Goa. He has been a minister in both the previous governments of Narendra Modi. 
  3. Pankaj Choudhary has been elected MP from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh. 
  4. Krishna Pal has been elected MP from Faridabad in Haryana. He has been a minister in both the previous governments of Narendra Modi. 
  5. RPI leader Ramdas Athawale has been a minister in both the previous governments. 
  6. JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Ramnath Thakur is the son of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur. 
  7. Nityanand Rai is MP from Ujiarpur in Bihar. 
  8. Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (Sonelal) has been elected MP from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. 
  9. Suresh Gopi is the only BJP MP from Kerala.
  10. V. Somanna has been elected from Tumkur in Karnataka.
  11. TDP MP Chandrasekhar Pemmasani is an MP from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.
  12. SP Singh Baghel has been elected from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
  13. Shobha Karandlaje is the MP from Bangalore North in Karnataka.
  14. Kirti Vardhan Singh is the MP from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.
  15. BJP MP and Vice President in Uttar Pradesh is BL Verma.
  16. Shantanu Thakur has won from Bangaon in West Bengal.
  17. Tamil Nadu BJP leader L. Murugan lost the election from Nilgiris but has been made a minister despite losing to DMK’s A. Raja by more than two lakh votes.
  18. BJP leader Ajay Tamta has won from Almora in Uttarakhand.
  19. Bandi Sanjay Kumar is the MP from Karimnagar in Telangana.

Apart from this, MPs Kamlesh Paswan, Bhagirath Chaudhary, Satish Dubey, Sanjay Seth, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Durga Das, Raksha Khadse, Sukant Majumdar, Savitri Thakur, Tokhan.

Modi Cabinet 2024: Won but did not get a place

  • It is worth noting that despite winning, Narayan Rane, Purushottam Rupala and Anurag Thakur did not make it to the cabinet. The BJP leadership did not include 16 out of 17 ministers of the outgoing council of ministers who lost in the Lok Sabha elections.
  • The four prominent cabinet ministers of the previous cabinet – Smriti Irani, RK Singh, Arjun Munda and Mahendra Pandey – also did not find a place, as they all lost this time.
  • The only exception is L Murugan, who has been made a minister despite being a Rajya Sabha member and losing Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris seat in the Lok Sabha.

Modi Cabinet Ministers List: Journey from Gujarat to Delhi

PM Modi’s political journey began as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, where he implemented a model of development and good governance. His first term as Prime Minister began in 2014, during which he launched major campaigns such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jan Dhan Yojana and Make in India.

In his second term in 2019, he focused on economic reforms, tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. In the 2024 general elections, the NDA alliance once again won a majority and formed the government.
