Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the PM Suryodaya Yojana on the occasion of the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration ceremony. The Prime Minister said during a meeting that every household with a rooftop can use the sun’s energy to reduce its electricity costs and become completely self-reliant for its electricity needs.
What is PM Suryodaya Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana is a Central Government Scheme aimed at providing electricity to poor and middle-class family individuals through solar rooftop installation, as well as providing additional income for surplus power generation. The Prime Minister said the sun’s energy can be harnessed by every household with a rooftop to reduce their electricity bills and make them truly self-reliant for their electricity needs. Also, he directed that a comprehensive national campaign should be launched to motivate residential sector consumers to adopt rooftop solar in large numbers.
These rooftop solar panels are photovoltaic panels connected to the main electricity supply unit. Thus, it reduces grid-connected power consumption and saves electricity costs for the consumer. This plan to make India self-reliant in the energy sector will include those citizens who are BPL or poor people with very little investment.
