The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts the Combined State/Provincial Civil Service (PCS) Examination to recruit candidates for various administrative positions in the Uttar Pradesh government. UPPSC Exam Pattern 2024
The UPPSC 2024 examination pattern is a critical resource that provides essential details about the exam format, duration, marking system, selection process stages, and more. To prepare effectively for the UPPSC exam, it is crucial to acquaint oneself with the exam pattern.
UPPSC: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission also conducts other exams for the recruitment of candidates for various positions within the UP government, such as Review Officer (RO)/Assistant Review Officer (ARO) and Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF)/Range Forest Officer (RFO).
From UPPSC Prelims 2018 onward, there have been revisions to the PCS Test Pattern. The syllabus and question formats now align with the new exam pattern. Notably, optional subject papers have been replaced by additional general studies papers, as outlined in the official notification for the UPPSC 2024 exam.
The UPPSC 2024 exam consists of three primary selection stages that candidates need to prepare for:
- Preliminary Exam: This is the first and initial round in the recruitment process. It is an objective-type paper comprising two crucial papers: General Studies I and General Studies II, also known as the CSAT paper.
- Mains Exam: The second stage of the selection process is the main exam, which is available to candidates who have successfully cleared the preliminary exam. The main exam comprises eight papers including Hindi and Essay.
- Interview: The interview, which is worth 100 marks under the new PCS exam pattern, gauges candidates’ general knowledge, moral integrity, capacity to convey their strengths, personalities and intelligence.

UPPSC Interview Pattern 2024
Candidates who successfully clear the Mains round of the PCS Exam are summoned for the UPPSC Viva/Personality Test/Interview. In the new PCS exam pattern, the interview holds a weightage of 100 marks and assesses candidates on various aspects, including general knowledge, moral integrity, ability to articulate strengths and personality, intelligence, and overall aptitude for public service.
The PCS Interview has changed as per the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. Initially composed of subject specialists, IPS officers, and IAS officers, the interview panel now includes former judges, brigadiers, and distinguished educators. This expansion has enhanced the authority of the interview board.
