The Uttar Pradesh state government has launched the Divyang Pension Yojana to provide financial assistance to persons with disabilities. The initiative aims to reduce financial stress, thereby improving their quality of life. The pension amount paid every month may be increased from time to time.

Benefits

A monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 is paid to each eligible beneficiary by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be 18 years of age or above.
  • They must be permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The minimum disability limit should be 40%.
  • Persons already receiving pension, grants or assistance under old age pension, widow pension or similar programs or receiving free maintenance in government institutions are ineligible.
  • The annual income of the applicant or their family should be within the poverty line limits (Rs 46,080 in rural areas and Rs 56,460 in urban areas).

Application Process

  • Visit the official website of the Divyang Pension Yojana.
  • Fill out the online application form.
  • Provide the required details including personal information, bank account details, income details, and disability details.
  • Upload the required documents: a photo, age certificate, and disability certificate.

Pension Amount

The scheme initially fixed the pension amount at Rs 1,000 per month. However, it is advisable to verify the current amount as government schemes may undergo adjustments over time.

Challenges and Prospects

Although the Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana represents a significant effort, it faces several challenges in implementation:

  • Awareness: Ensuring widespread awareness among eligible beneficiaries about the scheme and application procedures.
  • Verification: The process of verifying the disability certificate and income document can be laborious.
