We all talk very loudly about fundamental rights, but when it comes to our fundamental duties towards the country, protect the country and promote harmony. We all fall into a state of confusion. This Constitution has given us the fundamental duty to protect the country and fix the responsibility towards the society and country to follow the Indian Constitution, either no one wants to talk about it, or we do not do it deliberately, It is clear that we want everything but in return or considering it our responsibility. Don’t want to do it.
Fundamental Duties
These fundamental duties were largely inspired by the institutions of the former Soviet Union. Part 4 (A) and Article 51 (A) were added by the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976 which mentioned ten fundamental duties. Total 11 essential duties in India. We should follow the Indian Constitution.
The following is the list of 11 fundamental duties –
- To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem;
- To cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom;
- To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India;
- To defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so;
- To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic, and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;
- To value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;
- To protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures;
- To develop the scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform;
- To safeguard public property and to abjure violence;
- To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavor and achievement;
- Who is a parent or guardian, to provide opportunities for education to his child, or as the case may be, ward between the age of six to fourteen years.
Conclusion
We all should follow our duties in order to maintain peace and harmony within the country. Because the government expected the citizens of India to fulfill their duties, they added new functions such as protecting the country and voluntarily promoting harmony in independent India.
