Summary: -

Undertakes a professional internship designed to provide on-the-job training 

and experience to recent college graduates within an applied engineering or 

other advanced technical field. Engages in various work assignments, projects and activities of 

varying technical complexity, structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills 

and abilities needed to perform at a professional, technical level, typically identified with a targeted 

exempt position within the field of information technology. 

Duties and Responsibilities: -

1. Provides entry- to intermediate-level professional engineering or advanced technical 

services, under the supervision of more senior professional staff as appropriate to the 

day-to-day operating objectives of the unit. 

2. Undertakes and participates in engineering or technical design projects and programs 

designed to develop professional skills and expertise that will support the design and 

engineering of the unit, information technology, and other technical needs. 

3. Participates in the design, planning and implementation of unit projects and initiatives 

within engineering, construction and/or other advanced technical areas of expertise. 

4. Interacts directly with colleagues, and/or other internal or external constituencies in 

planning assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems. 

5. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from more senior professional personnel in 

designing, planning and carrying out activities and assignments. 

6. As appropriate to the position, and as specified by unit management, conducts original 

design and/or research and prepares reports based on findings, including 

recommendations or alternative proposals for action. 

7. May provide day-to-day guidance and support to employees and/or interns within the 

area of specialty. 

8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: -

● Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

● Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions. 

● Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. 

● Project development and planning skills. 

● Entry-level engineering and/or advanced technical knowledge and skill at the Bachelor's 

or Master's of Computer Science level within the specified area of technical professional 

specialty.
